The number of jobless Filipinos exceeded the four million mark in September, bringing the country’s unemployment rate to its highest level since January this year, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Thursday, Nov. 4.

The country’s unemployed persons picked up to 4.25 million in September from 3.88 million in the previous month, resulting in an unemployment rate of 8.9 percent.

Likewise, the labor force participation rate slightly dropped to 63.3 percent from 63.6 percent in August.

The decline is equivalent to a magnitude of about 269,000 Filipinos 15 years old and above who were either employed or unemployed. 



Underemployment rate, meanwhile, was estimated at 14.2 percent, accounting for 6.18 million individuals out of 43.59 million employed persons.
