Manila Water Co., Inc. is planning to invest P8 billion to develop and maintain the bulk water facility project it bagged under a 25-year concession agreement with the Provincial Government of Pangasinan.

The Provincial Government of Pangasinan formally presented the Notice of Award to the consortium of Manila Water and its wholly owned subsidiary, Manila Water Philippine Ventures, Inc., for the development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a bulk water facility within the province.

In September 2016, the consortium submitted an unsolicited proposal to the province. After the initial evaluation of the Pangasinan Public-Private Partnership Selection Committee (PPP-SC), a notice of acceptance was issued in November 2018.

Negotiations ensued and joint certifications of successful negotiations was signed in July 2019.

Manila Water said that under the concession agreement, it is expected to invest P8 billion over the 25-year contract for the implementation of capital expenditure programs that will increase water supply in the province.

Upon completion of conditions, Manila Water’s consortium will sign a concession agreement with the provincial government to implement the development of the bulk water supply project that will provide as much as 200 million liters of water per day by year 25.

At present, Manila Water serves more than seven million people in the east zone of Metro Manila and Rizal.

Meanwhile, Manila Water Philippine Ventures, a unit of Manila Water, operates bulk water supply projects in the Province of Cebu and in Tagum, Davao del Norte as well as provides water and wastewater services in Batangas, Laguna, Bulacan, Pampanga, Boracay, Iloilo, and Samar, among others.
