The number of jobless Filipinos increased last April due to reimposition of strict quarantine measures amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Tuesday, June 8.
The country’s unemployment rate rose to 8.7 percent in April from 7.1 percent in the previous month. However, the latest figure was significantly lower than the 17.6 percent registered in the same moth last year.

“Employment rate in the country posted a month-on-month decline in April 2021 when Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ)/Modified ECQ was re-imposed in the National Capital Region and nearby areas: from a 92.9 percent employment rate in March 2021, it dropped to 91.3 percent this April 2021,” PSA said.
